Get Reacquainted with Your Wild-Child Spirit

Remember those carefree days, filled with joy, laughter, play, imagination, adventure, and exploration, way before you took on the responsibilities of adulthood? We pretended to be grown-ups, but never did we include the stress and anxiety of day-to-day expectations. Suddenly, we find ourselves out of balance pulled by family and social obligations, work demands, financial responsibilities, and so-on, until we are on the brink of breaking. It can even be felt in our closest relationships! Stress has become a never-ending cycle, and before we know it the busy-ness of life leaves us feeling empty and depleted. Over time we lose our wild-child spirit. The good news is, that young girl is still there, buried under life’s expectations. Imagine a weekend where you could leave your worries behind and give your soul some well-deserved rest, with the freedom to play, laugh, relax, and explore, inviting this wild-child spirit to reemerge! This retreat offers you the time & space to recharge and refresh your body and your mind with the freedom to reconnect with and reclaim your spirit. As a group we will come together to enjoy a cocktail (mocktail) happy hour, dinner, followed by intentional conversation around the campfire (complete with S’Mores), led by your hosts, Maggie & Judy. The rest is up to you to join in or be alone. You do you! Leave feeling rejuvenated, refreshed and reconnected… ready to go home realigned with your wild-child spirit!

Meet Your Host

Judy with Goat at cattle drive

Judy viacava

As she was at the finish line of raising her two children to adulthood, Judy’s 17 year marriage was falling apart. The story of who she was, and the dream of the life to come was gone. A year after her separation from her husband, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which ultimately put Judy on the path to transformation.

Upon her breast cancer diagnosis, Judy realized her true calling: to help other women find their purpose after a major life transition. She reached out to the Cancer Journey Institute and began her training as a Cancer Journey coach, where Maggie and Judy first met as leaders for other people in training to become CJI coaches.

A healer at heart, as a certified massage therapist, Reiki master, and empowerment coach, Judy has helped hundreds of people on their path to self-discovery, through individual and group coaching, classes, workshops and retreats. Through her own experience, and path toward healing, Judy is passionate about helping others transform into a life filled with peace, passion and purpose.

Many of Judy’s programs use horses to facilitate learning, and is established in Pennsylvania and New Jersey with non-profit equine therapy facilities. Her love of community, volunteerism, and water, led her to become a member of The Machestic Dragons, breast cancer survivor dragon boat team, where she is the vice president of the board of directors.

Wellness with Nature

Resting on 150 acres, River Mountain is bordered by Sweet Root Creek, Warrior Ridge and Tussey Mountain. River Mountain's stunning spaces are designed for reflection, mindfulness, and good vibrations on your self-care journey. Creekside yoga platforms, a restored barn turned wellness space, and the calm of nature make this the ideal destination for peace and wellness.

Located just a few hours from D.C., Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, in the mountains of Pennsylvania, River Mountain is remote yet easy to access.

History

Warrior Path

Running parallel to River Mountain's eastern ridge is Warriors Path, the great Iroquois Indian highway from Six Nations country, New York, to the Catawba country in the Carolinas. The historic path along Sweet Root Creek was one of the longest and most heavily traveled land routes in eastern North America, connecting Indigenous peoples over hundreds of miles.

The Underground Railroad

Black Valley was an active route along the Underground Railroad. Local histories principally credit four, free black residents with leading the aid network in this area: Rev. John Fidler, Elias Rouse, Joseph Crawley, and James Graham. Just to the south of the River Mountain property are 13 unmarked graves of enslaved people who died traveling the route to freedom.
