Meet Your Hosts

Jill Izzo

Jill Izzo

Jill Izzo has had an extensive career in medicine, holistic care, and outdoor adventure. Although she has spent the last 17 years helping people in a traditional healthcare setting, her true passion has always been rooted in whole-body wellness—supporting the mind, body, and soul.

Over 20 years ago, before becoming a nurse, Jill earned her massage therapy license and Reiki Level II certification, laying the foundation for her integrative approach to healing. Around that same time, she met Jenn, who introduced her to yoga through small group sessions held in her home. Those early experiences planted a seed that would lead her years later back to The Yoga Hive in Manahawkin, NJ, where she completed 500 hours of yoga teacher training with Jenn and her husband, Kevin.

Kevin’s deep understanding of the eight limbs of yoga inspired Jill to explore meditation more profoundly. This journey led her to Instinctive Meditation and the Radiance Sutras, where she completed over 500 additional hours of meditation training. Her journey of learning continues to evolve, including expanded studies in aromatherapy at Eber’s in NJ, further deepening her connection to plant-based healing. For Jill, this path has been far more than education—it has been a source of deep nourishment and connection with community.

Her love for exploration extends beyond her professional work into her personal life, where she has spent years traveling, hiking, and immersing herself in the wonders of nature in places like Patagonia and New Zealand, as well as taking on challenges such as the John Muir Trail and Mount Kilimanjaro to walking down the street to the beach to watch the sunrise over the ocean. Nature has always called to her—challenging, grounding, and restoring her, reminding her that we are intertwined with the energies of the earth.

At this retreat, Jill will invite you to cultivate your own nourishing pause—tuning into what calls to you. Each person has their own natural doorways inward, and through intentional practices such as yoga, guided meditation, nature walks, and aromatherapy, you’ll learn to listen deeply to yourself, allowing space to breathe, rest, and renew.

Jenn McConnell

Jenn McConnell has been teaching yoga for over 20 years in the New Jersey Shore area. Her work is rooted in helping people reconnect to nature, nourish themselves, and build meaningful community connection.

Jenn completed her 200 hour Sivananda Yoga teacher training in Freehold, New Jersey and later continued her studies through a 500 hour Vinyasa Flow training with Laurie Greene and Edward Clark. She has also completed philosophy studies and continued education courses through the Tom Brown Jr. Tracker School, deepening her connection to nature, awareness, and mindful living.

To Jenn, community means creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and welcomed exactly as they are. She has hosted retreats around the world and co owns The Yoga Hive in Manahawkin, New Jersey with her husband Kevin. Through yoga, movement, and mindful practice, she brings people back to simplicity, presence, and a deeper sense of home.

Wellness with Nature

Resting on 150 acres, River Mountain is bordered by Sweet Root Creek, Warrior Ridge and Tussey Mountain. River Mountain's stunning spaces are designed for reflection, mindfulness, and good vibrations on your self-care journey. Creekside yoga platforms, a restored barn turned wellness space, and the calm of nature make this the ideal destination for peace and wellness.

Located just a few hours from D.C., Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, in the mountains of Pennsylvania, River Mountain is remote yet easy to access.

History

Warrior Path

Running parallel to River Mountain's eastern ridge is Warriors Path, the great Iroquois Indian highway from Six Nations country, New York, to the Catawba country in the Carolinas. The historic path along Sweet Root Creek was one of the longest and most heavily traveled land routes in eastern North America, connecting Indigenous peoples over hundreds of miles.

The Underground Railroad

Black Valley was an active route along the Underground Railroad. Local histories principally credit four, free black residents with leading the aid network in this area: Rev. John Fidler, Elias Rouse, Joseph Crawley, and James Graham. Just to the south of the River Mountain property are 13 unmarked graves of enslaved people who died traveling the route to freedom.
