Making Space: A Summer Retreat

Making Space: A Summer Retreat

I’m honored to invite you to our third Making Space Summer Retreat at River Mountain. This year we make space for resilience. It may be easy to be patient and optimistic when we are well rested and getting along with family, but somehow the challenges come in numbers and many things are out of our control. How can we make space around the overwhelm to show up for ourselves, for those we care about and for this world? How can we show up when there is nothing we can “do”? We’ll use yoga, breathwork, mediation, laughs, hikes and good food to nourish our minds and bodies and play with these challenges. I hope for all to leave our weekend knowing that our everyday thoughts and actions can be a value added for this world. Much love! - Serafina

Meet Your Hosts

serafina

serafina zippi

Serafina came to yoga looking for a workout; what she found was a transformation not just in body but in mind and spirit. Her practice unveiled a personal strength, an inherent intuition that guided her through hardships and set her on a path to be the healthy and happy person that she always knew she was. Her path continues to reveal that she loves to share, she loves to teach and she wants to help others discover the best versions of themselves through the discipline of a yoga practice.

Serafina is a E-RYT500 yoga instructor and has completed additional trainings in pranayama, trauma informed practices, meditation, anatomy & physiology, and restorative yoga. She love to learn and completes trainings regularly. She is also a Licensed Massage Therapist and nanny to her nephews Paul and Rocco.

Wellness with Nature

Resting on 150 acres, River Mountain is bordered by Sweet Root Creek, Warrior Ridge and Tussey Mountain. River Mountain's stunning spaces are designed for reflection, mindfulness, and good vibrations on your self-care journey. Creekside yoga platforms, a restored barn turned wellness space, and the calm of nature make this the ideal destination for peace and wellness.

Located just a few hours from D.C., Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, in the mountains of Pennsylvania, River Mountain is remote yet easy to access.

History

Warrior Path

Running parallel to River Mountain's eastern ridge is Warriors Path, the great Iroquois Indian highway from Six Nations country, New York, to the Catawba country in the Carolinas. The historic path along Sweet Root Creek was one of the longest and most heavily traveled land routes in eastern North America, connecting Indigenous peoples over hundreds of miles.

The Underground Railroad

Black Valley was an active route along the Underground Railroad. Local histories principally credit four, free black residents with leading the aid network in this area: Rev. John Fidler, Elias Rouse, Joseph Crawley, and James Graham. Just to the south of the River Mountain property are 13 unmarked graves of enslaved people who died traveling the route to freedom.
