Living Deeply: A Retreat for Self-Compassion

Living Deeply: A Retreat for Self-Compassion

Join Jackie Austin, ERYT200, and Denise Adams, LCPC for a transformative weekend set amidst the stunning backdrop of River Mountain; this retreat invites participants to explore self-compassion practices while reconnecting with nature.

Throughout the weekend, you'll have the opportunity to relax and reconnect through a variety of activities designed to nourish your body, mind, and soul. Start your mornings with meditation and gentle yoga sessions, allowing you to cultivate mindfulness and open your heart to self-compassion. Guided meditation and yin yoga sessions provide moments of introspection, fostering inner peace and self-awareness. Capture your thoughts and reflections during self-compassion sessions to foster resilience and clarity. Engage in evening restorative yoga to deeply relax and restore balance to your being.

Hikes through scenic trails along Sweet Root Creek offer opportunities for reflection amidst nature's beauty. Luxurious glamping accommodations, spring-fed tubs, and treetop hammocks provide spaces for rest and rejuvenation. Wholesome, nourishing meals promote vitality and wellness from within. Gatherings around the fire under the starlit sky inspire awe and a sense of interconnectedness.

Leave River Mountain feeling refreshed and equipped with the self-compassion tools to tackle life's stressors and live your deepest, most fulfilling life

Jackie Austin

Jackie Austin, MS Ed., ERYT 200, is an educator who first dabbled in yoga as part of an after work wellness program. After a health scare, her doctor recommended a consistent yoga practice as a way to mitigate the effects of stress, anxiety and depression on her body. Jackie committed to deepening her practice by attending classes weekly, and found her sanctuary. A recovering “type A” personality, she has discovered the importance of rest and stillness to complement life.
Jackie’s training includes a focus on the science of yoga and mindfulness, trauma and restorative practices. Jackie is drawn to gentle hatha, yin and restorative practices as a way to balance the need for movement and rest. She believes a balanced practice of asanas, pranayama and meditation can help one to be healthy, strong and content. Jackie is also a Certified Workplace Mindfulness Facilitator (CWMF) with Mindful Leader using the principles and science of mindfulness to facilitate workplace wellbeing.
As a certificated science educator for over 23 years, Jackie is dedicated to learning and growing. She focuses on creating an inclusive space where ALL bodies are welcome and participants learn from and with each other. She enjoys incorporating poetry, nature, and sound to complement the themes of her classes.

Wellness with Nature

Resting on 150 acres, River Mountain is bordered by Sweet Root Creek, Warrior Ridge and Tussey Mountain. River Mountain's stunning spaces are designed for reflection, mindfulness, and good vibrations on your self-care journey. Creekside yoga platforms, a restored barn turned wellness space, and the calm of nature make this the ideal destination for peace and wellness.

Located just a few hours from D.C., Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, in the mountains of Pennsylvania, River Mountain is remote yet easy to access.

History

Warrior Path

Running parallel to River Mountain's eastern ridge is Warriors Path, the great Iroquois Indian highway from Six Nations country, New York, to the Catawba country in the Carolinas. The historic path along Sweet Root Creek was one of the longest and most heavily traveled land routes in eastern North America, connecting Indigenous peoples over hundreds of miles.

The Underground Railroad

Black Valley was an active route along the Underground Railroad. Local histories principally credit four, free black residents with leading the aid network in this area: Rev. John Fidler, Elias Rouse, Joseph Crawley, and James Graham. Just to the south of the River Mountain property are 13 unmarked graves of enslaved people who died traveling the route to freedom.
