Creative Soul: Elements & Archetypes

Creative Soul: Elements & Archetypes

Rejuvenate and nourish your creative spirit during this nature infused art and yoga retreat. We will explore the art of the symbolic through art making, yoga practices and group meditations. Each participant will create a mini set of oracle cards based on the weekend’s exploration of archetypes and the elements. There will be daily morning and afternoon yoga practices, nature hikes, campfires, and healthy and delicious group meals. You will leave feeling inspired, energized, and deeply nourished. There will be plenty of time for rest, reflection and enjoying the hot tubs. No art experience is necessary– just a willingness to play, get a little messy, and do it for the process. You’ll leave the retreat with a tangible treasure full of learning, wisdom, and beauty.

Jessica Croker

Jessica Croker is an artist, art therapist, and yoga teacher with decades of experience practicing in her own life and guiding others. She sees both yoga and art-making as laboratories for experimentation. These are places to move and feel, to try new things and to settle into safety. She approaches each practice as an investigation, guiding students to be curious and feel themselves from the inside out. It’s this awareness that helps us expand our capacity to choose— to move on purpose— to act with agency in our bodies and lives.

She did her yoga training in Shambavananda Yoga at Shoshoni Yoga Retreat in the beautiful mountains of Nederland, CO and advanced trainings through the Shambavananda ashram in Konalani, Hawaii. Her master’s degree in art therapy and counseling is from Saint Mary of the Woods College in Indiana. In her art therapy work Jessica has focused on body image, trauma processing and addiction recovery. She has worked with underserved populations in Washington D.C. and has led many art therapy groups in in-patient, out-patient, and intensive outpatient clinical settings.

Jessica loves riding her bike and stand-up paddle boarding, making art and music, and hanging out with her husband (of 26 years) and 6 children. You can find out more about her and follow her on instagram @jessicacrokerartandyoga.

Wellness with Nature

Resting on 150 acres, River Mountain is bordered by Sweet Root Creek, Warrior Ridge and Tussey Mountain. River Mountain's stunning spaces are designed for reflection, mindfulness, and good vibrations on your self-care journey. Creekside yoga platforms, a restored barn turned wellness space, and the calm of nature make this the ideal destination for peace and wellness.

Located just a few hours from D.C., Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, in the mountains of Pennsylvania, River Mountain is remote yet easy to access.

History

Warrior Path

Running parallel to River Mountain's eastern ridge is Warriors Path, the great Iroquois Indian highway from Six Nations country, New York, to the Catawba country in the Carolinas. The historic path along Sweet Root Creek was one of the longest and most heavily traveled land routes in eastern North America, connecting Indigenous peoples over hundreds of miles.

The Underground Railroad

Black Valley was an active route along the Underground Railroad. Local histories principally credit four, free black residents with leading the aid network in this area: Rev. John Fidler, Elias Rouse, Joseph Crawley, and James Graham. Just to the south of the River Mountain property are 13 unmarked graves of enslaved people who died traveling the route to freedom.
