Root to Rise in the Mountains

Root to Rise in the Mountains

Step away from your routines and into the quiet rhythm of nature. This late spring retreat hosted by Root to Rise Yoga is an invitation to slow down and reconnect with your body, your breath, the present moment, and the space around you. Thoughtfully designed as a gentle reset, our time together will blend intentional yoga, breathwork, and meditation practices with rest, reflection, and unstructured moments to simply be.

Over the weekend, we’ll move through a nourishing mix of grounding vinyasa flows, restorative practices, and time outdoors. Between yoga sessions and group offerings, you’ll have ample time to wander scenic trails, rest in cozy corners, journal, soak in the outdoor hot springs tubs, or simply take in the quiet beauty of River Mountain. We’ll gather for delicious, locally sourced meals and spend evenings around the campfire, sharing conversation and connection.

This retreat is not about doing more; it’s about doing less in order to create space to turn inward, release what feels heavy, and reconnect with what steadies you. We hope you’ll return home feeling refreshed and rooted, carrying a sense of calm and clarity with you long after the weekend ends.

Nicole Loncaric Salvadori

Nicole is a yoga instructor with a 200 hour training certificate from Om Lounge Yoga in Pittsburgh. In addition to 10 years of experience teaching dance locally, she has accumulated over 1,000 hours of experience teaching yoga at studios in the greater Pittsburgh area since completing her initial training in Fall 2022. Nicole has attended multiple advanced trainings to continue her education of sequencing methods, chair yoga, and hands on assists, and is currently working toward her 300 hour training certificate with Awakening Yoga Academy based in Seattle. She is also a certified Silver Sneakers classic and yoga instructor as well as an adjunct political science professor with a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh and roughly 4 years of classroom experience across 2 universities.

Nicole’s approach to yoga instruction centers the importance of strong foundations. She provides students with the space to breathe, move, and be, establishing a solid base of familiar shapes and postures from which you can grow your yoga practice in any way you’d like. It is her priority to create an environment where everyone feels welcomed and is encouraged to make their own choices on their mats: take what you need and leave what you don’t! Nicole believes growth begins when we are able to fully ground ourselves in the present moment and remain open to whatever happens next.

In her free time, Nicole enjoys baking, cooking, gardening, watching her comfort shows (Gilmore Girls, New Girl, HIMYM, and SATC), practicing yoga with the community, and spending time at home with her loving husband and three adorable cats.

Wellness with Nature

Resting on 150 acres, River Mountain is bordered by Sweet Root Creek, Warrior Ridge and Tussey Mountain. River Mountain's stunning spaces are designed for reflection, mindfulness, and good vibrations on your self-care journey. Creekside yoga platforms, a restored barn turned wellness space, and the calm of nature make this the ideal destination for peace and wellness.

Located just a few hours from D.C., Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, in the mountains of Pennsylvania, River Mountain is remote yet easy to access.

History

Warrior Path

Running parallel to River Mountain's eastern ridge is Warriors Path, the great Iroquois Indian highway from Six Nations country, New York, to the Catawba country in the Carolinas. The historic path along Sweet Root Creek was one of the longest and most heavily traveled land routes in eastern North America, connecting Indigenous peoples over hundreds of miles.

The Underground Railroad

Black Valley was an active route along the Underground Railroad. Local histories principally credit four, free black residents with leading the aid network in this area: Rev. John Fidler, Elias Rouse, Joseph Crawley, and James Graham. Just to the south of the River Mountain property are 13 unmarked graves of enslaved people who died traveling the route to freedom.
