FOLLOW WHAT FEELS ALIVE
A Summer Solstice 5Rhythms® Gathering
Three nights in the mountains. The longest days of the year. And an invitation to come fully alive.
Summer has never been particularly interested in our restraint.
She throws open the windows and stays out late. Gets dirt under our fingernails and sweat down our backs. She asks us to come outside, loosen our grip, and remember there is more to being alive than holding everything together.
This Summer Solstice, we're following that invitation into the mountains.
HOWL is a three-night 5Rhythms® gathering devoted to movement, nature, pleasure, play, and the delicious unpredictability of being fully here.
We'll dance. A lot.
We'll sweat, wander outside, eat together, rest, laugh, gather, and celebrate the longest days of the year. We'll make space for spontaneity and follow the rhythms of our bodies rather than the relentless rhythm of productivity.
Think summer camp—but for grown-ups who want to dance their asses off, sleep well, eat good food, spend time outside, and remember what it feels like to play.
And underneath all of it, we'll be listening.
What feels alive?
Not what should you want or what looks good from the outside.
Definitely not what keeps everybody else comfortable.
What brings heat to your belly, breath to your chest, curiosity to your feet?
This isn't an invitation to abandon yourself or say yes to everything.
Quite the opposite.
Our practice will be one of becoming present enough, grounded enough, and honest enough to recognize the difference between an obligatory yes, a protective no, an uncertain maybe—and the unmistakable yes you can feel in your bones.
Through the 5Rhythms® map of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness, we'll practice listening beneath the noise, loosening what has become unnecessarily tight, moving what wants to move, and making room for pleasure, instinct, connection, and a little more wildness.
Wild doesn't have to mean loud.
It might be dancing until your clothes are drenched.
Bare feet in the grass.
An afternoon nap.
Cold water on hot skin.
Laughing too loudly.
A long conversation after dark.
We are talking about the kind of wild that gets quiet enough to hear the life that's already moving through you.
We'll meet the solstice together - long days, wild nights and see what happens when we follow what feels alive.

MEET YOUR HOST
Alyssa Jurewicz-Johns, MSW, RSME/T, 5RTA, RYT is an accredited 5Rhythms® teacher, somatic movement therapist, expressive arts practitioner, and social worker whose work lives at the intersection of movement, creativity, nervous system healing, and the natural world. Rooted in decades of study and embodied practice, her approach draws from the 5Rhythms® movement meditation created by Gabrielle Roth, the Tamalpa Life/Art Process®, somatic psychology, expressive arts, breath, and imagination. She believes the body is more than something we inhabit - it is a source of intelligence, instinct, and deep knowing, speaking through sensation, rhythm, gesture, and movement.
Alyssa creates spaces where people can step out of performance and back into relationship with their bodies, where movement becomes a language, creativity becomes essential, and the dance floor becomes a place to practice being fully alive. Her teaching is grounded in lineage, curiosity, community, and the belief that dance is one of our oldest ways of processing, expressing, celebrating, connecting, and finding our way home to ourselves. Through her classes, workshops, retreats, and private practice, she invites people to listen beneath the noise, trust what they know in their bones, and follow what feels alive.
Retreat Experiences
5Rhythms® Movement Sessions
The heart of HOWL. Immersive 2.5-hour movement sessions guided through the 5Rhythms® practice of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness. No choreography or dance experience required—just a willingness to listen to the body, follow the rhythm, and discover what wants to move.
Eco-Somatic Movement + Nature Practice
We'll take the practice beyond the dance floor and into the surrounding landscape, using sensory awareness, movement, breath, and the natural world as invitations to slow down, listen, wander, and follow what feels alive.
Reflective Writing + Creative Inquiry
Simple writing prompts will be woven throughout the gathering as a way to notice what the body is revealing. Less journaling for answers, more making space for curiosity, instinct, and whatever emerges from the movement.
Cold Dips + Pond Time
After moving and sweating, participants can cool down with an optional cold dip in the pond—a delicious reset for body and senses—or simply spend time resting beside the water.
Fires + Summer Nights
As daylight stretches into evening, we'll gather around the fire to settle, connect, tell stories, laugh, or simply enjoy being outside together. Long days deserve wild nights.
Shared Meals + Spacious Time
Delicious meals shared around the table, alongside unstructured time to rest, explore the land, connect with others, or disappear somewhere beautiful for a while.
Throughout the weekend, structured practice will be balanced with spaciousness. HOWL isn't about filling every hour. Part of following what feels alive is having enough room to hear it.
Wellness with Nature
Resting on 150 acres, River Mountain is bordered by Sweet Root Creek, Warrior Ridge and Tussey Mountain. River Mountain's stunning spaces are designed for reflection, mindfulness, and good vibrations on your self-care journey. Creekside yoga platforms, a restored barn turned wellness space, and the calm of nature make this the ideal destination for peace and wellness.
Located just a few hours from D.C., Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, in the mountains of Pennsylvania, River Mountain is remote yet easy to access.
History
Warrior Path
Running parallel to River Mountain's eastern ridge is Warriors Path, the great Iroquois Indian highway from Six Nations country, New York, to the Catawba country in the Carolinas. The historic path along Sweet Root Creek was one of the longest and most heavily traveled land routes in eastern North America, connecting Indigenous peoples over hundreds of miles.
The Underground Railroad
Black Valley was an active route along the Underground Railroad. Local histories principally credit four, free black residents with leading the aid network in this area: Rev. John Fidler, Elias Rouse, Joseph Crawley, and James Graham. Just to the south of the River Mountain property are 13 unmarked graves of enslaved people who died traveling the route to freedom.
